Allowances

In occasional circumstances, adoption allowances will be provided but they are not available automatically with all placements. Each case is assessed individually, at the time a child is approved for adoption. In general, these allowances will be paid to people who adopt children with disabilities, older children and groups of brothers and sisters together. Adoption allowances are regularly reviewed. The maximum allowances are equivalent to nationally agreed fostering rates, less Child Benefit.  

Adopters can claim Child Benefit for any children placed with them. Your family placement worker will advise you about how to claim this and when.
